Crafting Your Vision for Your Sod Installation

The sod installation process starts with a thorough consultation where we discuss your vision and understand your preferences. We assess your landscape's unique characteristics, such as soil type, drainage, and sunlight exposure. This evaluation guides us in selecting the right type of sod for your specific needs.

Based on our site evaluation and your preferences, we choose the appropriate type of sod that thrives in your local climate. Whether it's for high-traffic areas, shaded spots, or sunny expanses, we have a sod variety that suits your needs.

Precision and Perfection in Sod Installation

Our experienced crew begins the installation process by carefully laying each roll of sod with precision. We stagger the seams to create a seamless appearance, ensuring a visually appealing and uniform surface.

Once the sod is laid (typically its Kentucky bluegrass) we lightly roll over it to ensure good soil-to-sod contact. Proper watering is essential for sod establishment, so we water the newly installed sod thoroughly, ensuring that it's evenly saturated.

At Monarch Landscaping, we prioritize communication and collaboration with our clients, and that includes me understanding your specific preferences and expectations.

New Sod After Install Maintenance Tips

Monarch Landscaping prides ourselves in our detailed care approach for your brand new lawn in the Hamilton, Burlington and surrounding areas.

Get that New Lawn Wet

You will want to water the new sod as soon as it has been installed, for the next 14 days you will want to water your area for at least 45 minutes, we recommended picking up a sprinkler so you're not spending 1 hour of your day standing there. Alternatively, manually water your lawn 2-3 times a day spending 10-15 minutes at a time. PRO TIP, make sure you really water the edges your sod is beside such as a sidewalk/ driveway.

After 14 days, space out our lawn watering for 1 hour per watering every 2-3 days.

Let it grow then let it Mow

After the first 14 days of watering make sure your lawns have rooted to the ground, you can check by 2-3 soft tugs near the roots to ensure that your lawn has fully rooted to the lawn.

On your first and second lawn mowing cut make sure that your lawn mower is on the highest setting. On the next 2-3 cuts you can gradually lower the mower setting.

It Helps

At Monarch Landscaping we apply a thin layer of fertilizer with every installation,  after the install we recommend waiting 6-8 weeks.

Pro Tip: Fertilizer should be watered in or applied just before it rains to ensure you don't burn your lawn.

SODDING FAQs

Got a question about sod? We are here to help.

  • how late can you lay sod in Ontario?

For Hamilton, Burlington and surrounding areas we find that you can install sod mid-April up until the end of November. Sod will attach to the ground more quickly during more frequent rainfalls and colder temperatures.

  • How long should I water sod for once installed?

You should water your new sod for at least 45 mins a day for the first 14 days to get the best possible results, if you don't have much time on your hands then at least 15-25 mins per day should help your new sod roots attach.

  • how long after installing sod can you walk on it?

It can typically take up to 14 before your new sod has attached to the ground, you want to stay off the lawn as the roots are developing, stepping on the roots could damage and interrupt the process. If you want to check if your sod has attached then try to gently lift the corner before stepping on it.
